The first steps

In the coffee shop where I decided I wanted to build "Even handen vrij," you see my little son in the play corner with toys, paper, and pencils

Welcome to my diary, where I share behind-the-scenes stories about building Even handen vrij and everything I encounter along the way. From nothing and zero followers to “we’ll see!”

My name is Michelle, wife of a coffee lover and mother of a one-and-a-half-year-old rascal. Consequently, I am regularly on the lookout for nice spots to go with the family. Preferably a place where my son can entertain himself and my partner and I can enjoy a coffee or a bitterball and a beer. I come across many nice spots on Instagram, which I save for later, but then find difficult to locate again in a sea of photos and videos.

On the way home from a vacation, desperate to find a relaxed spot for lunch together, I took the next step: I bought a Google Maps map of child-friendly restaurants. That failed at the time, but I wanted more. You mainly click on such a place for the description, and then again to see the actual location with photos and reviews. Two clicks too many, I thought. The information remained generic, whereas I specifically wanted to know exactly what such a play corner looks like.

So, what do you do as a designer? You simply build a map yourself that meets all your requirements. And I am not the only one who benefits from this. Stay tuned, because I hope to be able to share the map with you soon.
